Alex was first to be voted off the jungle on Friday night and immediately broke show rules to fly home to partner Jess Glynne during a difficult family time
I’m A Celebrity’s Alex Scott is cutting short her jungle stint to dash back to the UK and support her partner Jess Glynne, whose mum is undergoing brain surgery.
The broadcaster, 41, became the first campmate to get the boot on Friday (November 28) night, but when the Hold My Hand singer, 36, failed to appear at the bridge to greet her, Alex sensed something was amiss with her mum, Alexandra.
Celebrities are usually required to stay in Australia until the final contestant gets eliminated, but Alex has chosen to flout this tradition to stand by Jess. Alex revealed: “It’s been a hard couple of months.
“But Jess was like I want you to go on the show and do it for my mum. It’s been tough because I want to be here for the wrap party and I have to get home straight away.
“She’s my Jessica, and I’m going home to be her rock. My campmates knew what I was going through and I just want to thank everyone at ITV and my camp mates because they’ve all shown me so much support”, reports the Express.
She revealed that she nearly missed her trip to the Australian Outback altogether after Jess’s mother Alexandra suffered a devastating stroke requiring brain surgery.
In an emotional chat with Daily Mail, Alex explained that it was Jess who urged her to take part despite the devastating family circumstances – though she spent her time on the ITV programme fretting that if her partner wasn’t waiting at the jungle bridge, it might mean her mum’s situation had deteriorated.
Following her exit from the programme on Friday evening, Alex revealed: “It’s been a tough time for us. The decision to enter the jungle was a difficult one for both of us and her family.
“But Jess never wanted me to step away from not doing it. I knew there was always a possibility of her not being across the bridge, if her mum hadn’t got better or if things had been getting worse, which they have been.
“But it was a big decision for me to not pass this opportunity and Jess was the one who pushed me to be here.”
The pair had kept their family heartbreak private whilst the BBC One Show host was appearing on the reality programme. Yet after becoming the first celebrity eliminated on Friday evening, with viewers questioning why Jess wasn’t present to welcome her – as is tradition for loved ones – the Hold My Hand vocalist finally spoke out.
Posting on Instagram, she revealed: “I wanted to share something personal, over the last few weeks my mum suffered a major stroke and needed urgent surgery.
“It’s been a really serious, life-altering time for my family, and I’ve had to stay close to home. Alex would always want me to be where I’m needed most. I can’t wait to have her back by my side.”
