A West Babylon woman is facing an assault charge after she allegedly shot a man in the face with a flare gun Monday outside her home, the Suffolk County Police Department said.
Kathleen Schuman, 76, and a man she knew were “involved in an altercation” about 5:45 p.m. outside the home on Wyandanch Avenue, a police department spokesperson said in an email to Newsday.
During the altercation, Schuman allegedly discharged the flare gun and struck the man, 67, in the face. The police did not release the man’s identity or provide information about the nature of his relationship with Schuman.
He was transported to a hospital for treatment of injuries considered non-life-threatening, police said.
Schuman was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip for injuries also not considered life-threatening, police said. Following Schuman’s release from the hospital, police will hold her overnight for arraignment on Tuesday at First District Court in Central Islip on a charge of second-degree assault.
