Rory McIlroy filmed himself and the Europe team with the Ryder Cup trophy in their locker room, where they chanted: ‘Are you watching, are you watching Donald Trump?’
The European team were keen to send a message to Donald Trump on Sunday night after winning the Ryder Cup.
The tournament, despite Europe’s brilliance, might be most remembered for the hostile crowd that had tried to get under the skin of the Europeans – namely Rory McIlroy. But after days of heckling from the crowd Team Europe claimed the trophy they took to social media to taunt Donald Trump.
A video emerged of Rory McIlroy filming himself and the Europe team with the Ryder Cup trophy in their locker room at Bethpage, where they chanted: ‘Are you watching, are you watching Donald Trump?’
And the President, a massive golf fan who made a high-profile attendance on day one at the course outside of Manhattan on Friday, clearly was. He reposted the video on his Truth Social account and was gracious in defeat, commenting a short but simple four-word response: ‘Yes, I’m watching. Congratulations!”
Avid golfer Trump was dressed to a tee as he boarded his Marine One helicopter to Bethpage Black course in Long Island, New York.
The Orange Manbaby addressed reporters before heading to the chopper with his golfer granddaughter Kai Trump, 18. But social media users were stunned when he was seen sporting the white golf shoes with his tieless back suit.
One wag quipped: “He’s unhinged. He going to the Ryder cup and not playing in it. Weird.” Another said: “Trump already has his golf shoes on. He might demand to play in the afternoon.”
It is the first time Trump has attended a professional golf event as a spectator since August 2023, when LIV Golf went to his Bedminster course in New Jersey.
The operation surrounding President Donald Trump’s vist to watch the Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black is potentially the most expensive bill in the sport’s history.
Trump’s presence at the tournament could result in costs surpassing £12million but official figure has been revealed. Nevertheless, costs from other sporting events that Trump has attended offer a glimpse of what American taxpayers might be expected to foot the bill for.
