Max Verstappen has been given hope of making an incredible comeback to win the F1 World Championship after his major advantage over Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri was spotted
Max Verstappen has been given an incredible chance of completing a dramatic F1 World Championship turnaround.
The Dutchman is currently 69 points behind championship leader Oscar Piastri, but Verstappen has made a significant dent into what looked to be an unassailable lead for the McLaren duo.
Verstappen has thrown himself back into the picture to win the drivers’ title for a fifth-time in a row by winning in Azerbaijan, as Piastri crashed out in the opening corners and Lando Norris found himself unable to overtake any higher than P7.
A new data study by AskGamblers has calculated the projected points totals for all three of the championship rivals. With seven races remaining, the data analysed all three drivers’ past performances at Singapore, Austin, Mexico, Brazil, Las Vegas, Qatar and Abu Dhabi.
That has been put together to find that Norris is projected to win his maiden title in Abu Dhabi.
The Brit is forecast to pick up a further 113 points, taking his total points tally to 412. While Piastri is projected to see his performances completely diminish in the run in, Verstappen will come agonisingly close.
Verstappen is projected to come second in the standings, only four points behind Norris, picking up 153 more points before the end of the campaign.
The Red Bull star is forecasted to win an average of 19.2 points per race at the final seven tracks, and 6.2 in the remaining three sprint races. Verstappen’s stunning assault on the championship comes as Piastri is projected to flop massively over the rest of the year.
According to the data, Piastri is forecast to pick up just 58 more points, taking the Aussie’s estimated points tally to 382 – in what would be nothing short of a disaster for the championship leader.
Piastri’s upcoming weekend in Singapore will be the most analysed of any driver after he suffered a nightmare time in Baku last time out.
A crash in qualifying meant he started in P9, before he almost stalled in a jump start, which left him at the back of the grid at the first corner.
Piastri’s race was over just a few corners later when he crashed into the wall, ending an uncharacteristically error-laden weekend.
While McLaren could seal the Constructors’ Championship again this weekend, the race for the drivers’ title is firmly back on.
Verstappen spent his weekend away from F1, not resting up, but instead winning his debut GT3 race in a Ferrari on Saturday around the iconic Nordschleife track in Germany. He truly is the man in form at the right time.
