Manchester United are gearing up for another big weekend in the Premier League after a huge victory over Chelsea last time out relieved some of the pressure on Ruben Amorim
Manchester United will be hoping that their 2-1 triumph over Chelsea last weekend injects some much-needed momentum into their season.
Having already been eliminated from the Carabao Cup and not participating in European football this season, Ruben Amorim’s squad will have enjoyed a week’s rest by the time they face Brentford on Saturday. The Premier League showdown at the Gtech Community Stadium comes hot on the heels of an exhilarating victory at Old Trafford, courtesy of goals from Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro.
United capitalised on having an extra player after Chelsea’s goalkeeper Robert Sanchez was sent off early in the game, before Casemiro himself saw red just before half-time. Securing another three points this weekend would be a massive boost for Red Devils’ head coach Amorim.
Speculation continues to mount over his possible dismissal following a disastrous start to his time in England and there’s talk of big transfers. Here’s all the latest news from Old Trafford.
Harry Kane up for grabs at a bargain price
Harry Kane could be set for a Premier League comeback next summer due to a reported secret clause in his contract. The England skipper moved to Bayern Munich two years ago in a deal potentially rising to £100m and is contracted until June 2027, reports the Mirror.
However, German publication Bild claims Kane could be available for a steal at £56.7million next year, provided he notifies Bayern of his intention to leave before the end of the January transfer window.
Such a move would be unexpected given Kane’s successful stint in Bavaria, where he has won the first trophies of his career and already netted eight goals this season.
But a comeback to the Premier League following the 2026 World Cup, when he’ll be 33, would offer him the opportunity to surpass Alan Shearer’s record as the English top flight’s all-time leading goalscorer.
United, having previously pursued Kane, might be eager to secure the ex-Spurs striker, despite Amorim’s overhaul of his forward line featuring Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha.
They could also encounter rivalry from Tottenham, given their first-option clause from when they enabled Kane’s move to Germany in 2023.
Frankfurt boss eyes Amorim’s job
Eintracht Frankfurt manager Dino Toppmoller has confessed he would relish the opportunity to take charge at United.
The 44-year-old has built an impressive reputation in Germany through his work with the Bundesliga outfit, guiding them into the Champions League.
Premier League supporters may recognise him as the coach who maximised the potential of Omar Marmoush and Hugo Ekitike, both of whom secured lucrative transfers to the English top division this year.
Toppmoller has hinted he wouldn’t reject an approach from United if offered Amorim’s position. “Basically, it’s a dream to be at Eintracht now,” he stated, according to Bild.
“It’s simply a fantastic club. Here, as a teenager, I witnessed for the first time that my father was a Bundesliga coach. That naturally creates an emotional bond with a club.
“Thinking about abroad, I often played computer games as a child, always with one team: Manchester United. That would definitely be nice someday, because it’s an extraordinary club.
“When I was a teenager, Manchester United was, along with Real Madrid, the biggest club of all.”
The coach turned down a lucrative offer to join Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad in the summer. He’s no stranger to Manchester either, which could come in handy if he were to replace the beleaguered Amorim at Old Trafford.
He had a loan spell at Manchester City in 2001, although he never made it onto the pitch for the club.
