Emergency services raced to Abu Talat Beach following reports that youngsters were in distress in the water, Egypt’s health ministry has said. An inquiry has been launched into the tragedy
At least six students have tragically lost their lives while 24 others sustained injuries during a school trip to an Egyptian seaside resort. Emergency responders rushed to Abu Talat Beach after receiving reports that youngsters were struggling in the waters, according to the country’s health ministry.
A large-scale rescue mission was deployed, however six students could not be saved. Emergency teams provided treatment to three injured pupils on the beach.
An additional 21 were rushed to nearby medical facilities, reports Birmingham Live. Red warning flags have been hoisted to caution the public against entering the waters, and the beach has been shut down.
Egypt’s Ministry of Health stated it “urges the public to adhere to safety guidelines on beaches”.
Khaled Abdel Ghaffa, Minister of Health and Population, confirmed that comprehensive emergency care is being delivered to the students.
An investigation has been launched, with authorities examining whether proper safety measures were in place.
It comes as a 24-year-old man tragically drowned in a mere nine inches of water in what has been described as a “freak paddling pool accident.”
Roan Bloore, 24, was draining a pool his nieces and nephews had been using during the heatwave when he is thought to have lost consciousness. He was discovered lying in just nine inches of water for approximately 10 minutes before being found.
Emergency services initiated CPR and, despite paramedics successfully restarting his heart, Roan’s brain had suffered oxygen deprivation leading to organ failure and ultimately his death on June 26.
His devastated father Michael revealed that he and his wife were unable to bid farewell as they were caught in traffic. The father-of-four told MailOnline: “I’m ripped to pieces, one of my babies is gone. I had four children and now I have three.”
The couple, from Doncaster, South Yorkshire, were holidaying in Devon when they received the dreadful news about Roan. Overwhelmed by shock, they couldn’t drive back and instead flew home, escorted by police to the hospital where Roan was being treated.
