The famed 16th century astrologer who predicted Covid and 9/11 has foretold of a conflict between East and West, and more wars to come – but also offered some hope in the shape of a ‘man of light’
As Christmas approaches, many look to the turn of the year as a time of new beginnings. But according to Nostradamus we could be in for a chilling year in 2026 – with more wars, a conflict between West and East – and even a ‘swarm of bees’.
Famed 16th Century astrologer Michel de Nostredame – better known as Nostradamus – is said to have foretold huge world events such as 9/11 and the Covid pandemic more than 400 years before they happened.
His work Les Propheties, published in 1555, has been interpreted as predicting all manner of actual historical developments which ensued in the four centuries since he wrote it.
For the end of 2025, he predicted the “end of a long war”, which many understood to mean the protracted conflict between Russia and Ukraine, writing: “Through long war all the army exhausted, so that they do not find money for the soldiers.”
But as we move into 2026, he has foreseen more conflict – including a worrying development which has echoes of the global conflicts of the 20th century, as he predicted a clash between West and East.
He wrote: “When Mars rules his path among the stars, human blood will sprinkle the sanctuary. Three fires rise from the eastern sides, while the West loses its light in silence.”
With Mars being the ancient Roman god of war, it seems likely to signal more fighting in the new year. However, there are other interpretations, and it could refer to an economic battle, with Europe falling behind countries such as China and Japan in the race to develop AI, according to the Daily Mail.
Also for 2026, Nostradamus writes: “The great swarm of bees will arise… by night the ambush…” This could refer to actual bees, or maybe to the rise of other insects such as Asian Hornets. But some believe bees are a symbol of power and that this prediction could denote the coming together of world leaders to achieve a common aim.
That could refer to Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin and Vlodimir Zelenskyy coming to some kind of resolution following the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022, or it could to Trump’s peace deal in Gaza.
Whatever the truth it, there certainly seems to be more war in store, as Nostradamus writes: “Seven months great war, people dead through evil / Rouen, Evreux the King will not fail.”
Another passage offers: “Because of the favour that the city will show… the Ticino will overflow with blood…”
Ticino is the southernmost area of Switzerland – famed of course for its neutrality. So it seems unlikely that Switzerland will become embroiled in war, although this could refer to conflict in Europe more broadly.
The verses are taken from the the 26th quatrains of Les Propheties, which many of Nostradamus’ followers believes relate to 2026. While many of his prophecies appear to foretell doom and gloom, he does offer some hope for the year.
“Shadows will fall, but the man of light will rise,” he wrote. “And the stars will guide those who look within.” So what that means is anybody’s guess, really – but perhaps after war and economic tension, a new, more positive outlook on the world will emerge. Let’s hope so!
