EXCLUSIVE: From indulgent classics to low-carb alternatives and plant-based twists, the range is broad enough to satisfy everyone at the table – and most importantly, there’s no faff
If there’s one thing I’ve learned about Christmas cooking, it’s the more “simple” a recipe claims to be, the more chopping boards, pans and kitchen chaos I end up dealing with. So when Green Chef launched its Christmas 2025 menu promising festive flavour without the faff I was curious and also a little bit scared. Could a meal kit really deliver indulgence, convenience and health all at once?
We put it to the test with three dishes for a family dinner: the lamb steak in redcurrant sauce, the apple and sage slow-cooked chicken, and the bacon-wrapped whole roast chicken. Before I get into the tasting, it’s worth saying that this year’s menu is genuinely impressive.
Green Chef has launched 15 new recipes for 2025, bringing the total festive choice to more than 50 dishes and portions are only £5.50 each. From indulgent classics to low-carb alternatives and plant-based twists, the range is broad enough to satisfy everyone at the table. There’s even a new ‘Taste of Scandinavia’ series featuring smoked flavours, fresh herbs and Nordic winter comfort.
Our festive taste test
The lamb steak in redcurrant sauce was a knockout. Tender, rich and coated in a perfectly balanced sweet-sharp glaze, it tasted restaurant-worthy with almost no effort on my part. It set the tone for the night – premium ingredients, zero stress.
The next evening, we had the the apple and sage slow-cooked chicken which delivered exactly what you want from winter cooking – cosy, fragrant flavours without being heavy.
The apple added subtle sweetness, the sage made it properly festive, and the chicken itself was incredibly tender. It felt like the kind of dish you’d serve on a relaxed December evening, comforting but still balanced.
But the biggest crowd-pleaser might have been the bacon-wrapped whole roast chicken. It looked like something you’d centrepiece on Christmas Day itself. The bacon crisped beautifully in the oven, keeping the chicken juicy, and the whole thing tasted indulgent without tipping into overly rich. It fed the family easily, and honestly, I’d make this again on any Sunday of the year.
The best part? Everything was unbelievably easy. Pre-portioned ingredients, clear instructions, thoughtful nutritional balance – all delivered to the door. No peeling, no overthinking, no juggling six pans at once. Just delicious, good-for-you festive food that doesn’t take over your entire evening.
And browsing the rest of the menu, it’s clear Green Chef has something for every kind of Christmas cook – the luxe Beef Fillet Wellington, Scandi salmon specials, hearty gnocchi dishes, plant-based roasts, low-carb turkey pies… it’s a festive lineup that actually considers real life.
Final verdict
After trying three dishes, I’m officially converted. Green Chef has managed to make Christmas cooking feel joyful again. Delicious, premium, balanced – and crucially, faff-free.
If you’re looking to enjoy festive flavours without the usual kitchen overwhelm, this menu might just be the gift you give yourself this year.
The Green Chef Christmas 2025 collection is available for delivery now and based on our dinners, I’d get in there early.
